Why is a chapter named after the bee?

Surah An-Nahl · 16:68–69

Meaning (M. Pickthall, 1930): And thy Lord inspired the bee, saying: Choose thou habitations in the hills and in the trees and in that which they thatch; Then eat of all fruits, and follow the ways of thy Lord, made smooth (for thee). There cometh forth from their bellies a drink divers of hues, wherein is healing for mankind. Lo! herein is indeed a portent for people who reflect.

The reflection

Why is a whole chapter of the Quran named after the bee?

In the chapter called The Bee, God inspired the bee to build its homes in the hills and the trees.

Ibn Kathir explains that this inspiration is guidance. The bee builds six-sided cells with no gap between them, then follows paths made easy for it over valleys and mountains… and each bee returns to its own home, without straying right or left. Al-Sa'di writes: its wondrous guidance is a sign of God's care and kindness.

From their bellies comes a honey whose colours differ with their pastures, "wherein is healing for mankind". Reflect. And God knows best.
